Obituary of John MacDonald from the Scottish Catholic Directory of 1835.

Died, at Rinaleoid, in Arisaig, Inverness-shire, on the 7th of July, the Rev. John Macdonald, at the advanced age of 82. Mr. Macdonald was born in Monteith, where his parents went from Arisaig to reside. Having, at an early age, been sent to the Seminary of Bourblach in North Morar, which was then directed by the Rev. John Macdonald, who afterwards became Bishop, he there was converted to the Catholic faith, and went, about the year 1768, to the Scotch College of Valladolid, which was at that time under the superintendence of Bishop Geddes. There he continued for several years, prosecuting his studies for the ecclesiastical state. Having received Holy Orders, he remained for some time at Valladolid, and was employed by Bishop Geddes in the capacity of a teacher. He came home to Scotland about the year 1782, and was appointed by Bishop Alexander Macdonald to the Mission of Moydart, where he remained but a short period. From Moydart he was transferred to the island of Barra, and, having continued there for a few years, he was afterwards appointed to the charge of the Mission of Arisaig, as successor to the Rev. Alexander Macdonald of the Kinlochmoydart family. In this Mission he continued till his death. In the latter years of his life he was assisted in his pastoral duties by the Rev. Angus Macdonald, who has now the sole charge of the extensive Mission of Arisaig.
